Womanist, religious educator and play facilitator Dr. Lakisha R. Lockhart has been appointed Assistant Professor of Christian Education at Union Presbyterian Seminary, beginning July 1.
Several Union Presbyterian Seminary faculty members are participating in a nationwide social justice action Tuesday and Wednesday to draw attention to racial injustice in the United States. During Scholar Strike, inspired by the actions of professional basketball and baseball players who struck last month, faculty members will set aside many of their usual institutional duties to engage in activities with students and the public that promote change.
Justice is at the very heart of who God is, Professor Rebecca Davis of Union Presbyterian Seminary said during a Thursday workshop at the annual gathering of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators. And justice is not a political issue — it’s a biblical issue. “We must come to grips with that,” she said to an overflow workshop crowd, “if we are going to be faithful to the witness of the church.”
