My name is Miguel Petrosky, and I’m a second-year YAV who’s currently serving at an adult education/literacy program in New Orleans, Louisiana! I will be 24 years old in July, and I hail from Covington, a small town in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. I received my undergraduate degree in government with a minor in music from The College of William & Mary, in Williamsburg. I am a true born-and-bred (and proud) Virginian.

My personal goal is to be as knowledgable as I possibly can be in all subjects, so it’s no surprise for one to see me with a bag of books constantly by my side — ranging from books written by Karl Barth to some random textbook on geology. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new surroundings, playing the piano and singing. I’m also a horribly recovering coffee addict.

I’ve been placed to serve in Zambia, Africa, and I couldn’t be more excited! This first YAV year has stretched me and made me grow in ways I actually didn’t expect to grow, so I’m thrilled to be given a chance to serve and stretch in an international context. Vocationally, I’ve felt lead to look into serving in U.S. diplomacy, but as I continue to follow the way of Jesus, I feel as though my future plans are constantly being transformed and molded, since my lens on the world around me alters each day as I serve and reflect on my faith here in New Orleans. Regardless, I’m excited about the future, and I can’t wait to see how living and serving in Zambia changes me and the world around me.
