My name is Katie Jenkins, I am a 23-year-old from the small town of Mason City, Illinois. This past year, I served as a YAV in Asheville, North Carolina. While there, I worked very closely with the “have” and “have not” communities of Western North Carolina and soon recognized how much of our population faces poverty, while others have more wealth than know what to do with.
Fear and miscommunication are two of the biggest issues our country faces. I am hoping to embrace the new challenges that Tucson has to offer while also seeing how this model of fear and misunderstanding connects to the borderland community. Coming into my second year, I am looking forward to serving alongside a community of faith and discerning what it (specifically) is that God is calling me to do.
