My name is Kailen Soncksen. In May of 2018, I will be graduating from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, with degrees in health systems and religious studies. I am excited to be moving from the Midwest to Austin, Texas, in September 2018! Through my studies at HC, I have gained a new perspective of the world. Learning about injustices that marginalized individuals and groups experience every day has lead me to believe that if each of us begins to think what we can give to others rather than what we can obtain for ourselves, the world will improve expeditiously. With this in mind, I strive to make a positive impact with every person I have the honor of meeting. Throughout my college career, I have offered my time, skills, and compassion to individuals who struggle with food insecurity. I look forward to continuing similar social justice work through the YAV program, while simultaneously examining my own faith and beliefs with others that have similar passions and goals as mine!
