My name is Julia Burkley! I am originally from the northern suburbs of New York City, but have recently been calling Raleigh, North Carolina, my home. I am currently completing religious studies and gender and sexuality studies at Davidson College. I am working on a project about conversations of race and gender within church congregations, through the Hagar and Sarah narrative of Genesis 16. I am someone who has the gift of connection: I love communicating with people in any medium, especially through informal coffee conversations, music and cooking. Through connecting with the community around me, I feel even more connected to God and God’s incredible Kingdom. This upcoming year, I will be living in Austin, Texas, as a Young Adult Volunteer (YAV). I am so excited to explore my faith and calling through this year of service!
