JEFFERSONVILLE, Indiana — The Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis sums up why theological education matters in a video we released in 2020.

Mullis serves as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, a church that is deeply rooted in service to community.

“What a good theological education does is it forms discipleship in order to form ministry,” Mullis says. “Theological education isn’t cheap, and that’s why this congregation supports the Theological Education Fund. We are aware of from what we benefit.”

This year, we celebrate the guidance of these saints and the future pastors of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on Theological Education Sunday, set for Sept. 19, with resources prepared for use in observance of this important day in your own congregation.

Resources for Theological Education Sunday

All resources, which can be found on the Presbyterian Foundation website, are downloadable. Below is a brief look at available resources.

  • Minute for Mission: I recorded a short video Minute for Mission that you can use in your worship services on Sept. 19 or whenever your church celebrates theological education. You can find it here.
  • Liturgical Resources: This year’s liturgy is written by the Rev. Anna Dickson, associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and we’re so excited to share it with you. This includes a bulletin announcement, hymn selections, scripture suggestions, a children’s sermon and prayers. You can download it here. If you’re looking for just the bulletin announcement, you can find that here.
  • Slides: We have created a set of slides that you can use during the gathering time for worship or during worship that introduces you to pastors who are deeply appreciative of their theological education. Download the slides on our main resources page here.
  • Bulletin inserts: If your church will be using a printed bulletin for Theological Education Sunday, you can download and print bulletin inserts. Find those on our main theological education resources page.
