Jerry Can has a number of fun activities he wants to share with children around the country to help them learn about the importance of loving our neighbor. Follow the below instructions to learn how to make a door hanger you can share with your neighbors, and check out the Presbyterian Giving Catalog’s Jerry Can Curriculum for additional lessons and activities!
Gather the following items:
- Door hanger pattern
- “Blessing” cut from construction paper or printed paper
- Fun Foam or construction paper
- Pinking shears or design scissors
- Glue
- Felt-tipped markers
What to do:
- Make copies of the door hanger pattern, one for each child.
- Create a blessing panel: text that is either cut out and glued onto the door hanger, or hand-written on the hanger. It would read:
Dear Neighbor,
We pray that you might have a blessed day and fulfilling week.
With love in Christ,
Your neighbors
- Cut out door hangers from Fun Foam or cardstock in bright colors.
- Copy the blessing panel on printed paper and cut out with pinking shears or design scissors.
- Glue the panel on the hanger. Children can also cut out several hearts (and even Jerry Can himself!) and glue on the hanger. Get creative!
- If you are going to deliver these to church neighbors, have the children print the name of your church on the back. If someone is not at home during delivery, your neighbor will then know where it came from.
