Session 1: Building Your Relationships with Your Members of Congress

Tuesday, May 1st, 3-4:30 pm EST –Facilitated by Nora Leccese, Associate for Domestic Poverty and Environmental Issues at the OPW and Jamila Cervantes, Emerson National Hunger Fellow at the OPW 

Now that you’ve met with your Members of Congress, you may be wondering what else you could do to continue to build that relationship and bring a faithful perspective to the halls of power at home. This webinar outlines the next steps in fostering a relationship with your elected officials, and includes information on how to organize an in district advocacy visit, host a public vigil, and contact your representatives. This webinar is intended to help leaders build the local power of their congregations and achieve justice- and faith-driven results in their communities and across the nation.

Session 2: Beyond Marching- Creating a Grassroots Advocacy Team 

Tuesday, May 8th 3-4:30 pm EST– Facilitated by Nora Leccese, Associate for Domestic Poverty and Environmental Issues at the OPW and Jamila Cervantes, Emerson National Hunger Fellow at the OPW 

Many congregations have social witness ministries, social justice committees, or groups of people dedicated to social justice work. This webinar explains how to organize and formalize groups into a Grassroots Advocacy Team to further engage congregants and community members in the process of creating sound public policy and advancing a prophetic agenda to benefit all of God’s creations. Topics covered include how to: build a team, identify leadership, encourage leadership development, conduct group meetings, draft agendas, and more.

Session 3: Grow the Movement 

Tuesday, May 15th 3-4:30 pm EST– Facilitated Jamila Cervantes, Emerson National Hunger Fellow at the OPW 

Learn how to recruit new members of your advocacy team, identify their skills and interests, and move them up a ladder of engagement so they are able to be leaders in a movement for justice. Learn how to conduct a one to one meeting, absorb new members in a critical political moment, and maintain the health of a team long term.
