Clarksville Presbyterian Church
Our first year as a Matthew 25 congregation has found members of Clarksville Presbyterian Church deeply engaged in addressing poverty in our rural county. We first explored in depth what the needs were and the ways in which they were already being addressed. While continuing our involvement in the Clarksville Food Pantry, Backpack Buddies and other outreach efforts, we were invited to participate in Care Portal, a cooperative effort with our county’s Department of Social Services. Using an online platform, caseworkers connect churches with families who have specific needs. We have responded to seven Care Portal requests, which have included providing beds, mattresses, bedding, clothing, a refrigerator, furniture, baby equipment and more. Beyond providing these tangible needs of the families, churches are encouraged to establish ongoing relationships and provide mentorship and spiritual resources when possible. When we deliver the requested items, we also present the children’s Bibles.
