Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church
Loomis, California
In celebration of Black History Month, Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church hosted an art exhibit titled “America in Black,” featuring 28 pieces of artwork from four local artists of color. Celeste Budd of Newcastle brought powerful and whimsical expressions in glass mosaic. Dwight Head of Sacramento revealed complex subjects in colored pencil, ink and cold wax. His brother, Todd Head, also from Sacramento, created a unique three-dimensional technique using found objects, colored sand and glue, creating circular tapestries of peonies. The final artist, Celeste Grey, showed five delicate children’s book illustrations in watercolor and ink.
As COVID-19 restrictions lifted, we held public viewings and concluded the show with an artist reception on May 8. Our community supported these artists by purchasing 10 pieces and participating in a stained-glass art class.
