Covenant Presbyterian Church
Fort Myers, Florida
Covenant Presbyterian in Ft. Myers, Florida, has been a PC(USA) Matthew 25 Congregation since March 2020. Among other efforts, Covenant is dedicated to eradicating systemic poverty with a special focus on the nearby farmworker community of Immokalee. Working through Misión Peniel, an Immokalee-based farmworker ministry of the Peace River Presbytery, and Cultivate Abundance, a nonprofit addressing farmworker food insecurity, Covenant established the Together We Grow Mission Garden in 2018. Producing crops preferred by farmworker households, including cassava, papaya, sweet potato and mango, the garden has gradually expanded across the Covenant church campus. Every Friday afternoon, fresh food from the Covenant garden and other local producers is shared with 300 to 500 Misión Peniel clients. Since 2018, 3,854 pounds of produce have been grown in the Covenant Together We Grow garden and distributed through Misión Peniel, amounting to 8,324 servings with a market value of $4,554.
