Celebrating the Pentecost Offering with Our Youth

Engaging the children of your congregation with the four churchwide Special Offerings has never been easier or more important. There are numerous ways children can connect with the Pentecost Offering, especially considering this Offering celebrates how God’s Spirit works in the lives of young people. We have a number of resources available online to help you as you engage your young people.

This year’s curriculum was written by Jenna Campbell, a Certified Christian Educator serving as the Director of Children and Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. This includes:

Through these lessons, children will consider how the Spirit inspired God’s people during Pentecost and still calls us to share faith today. Through their own participation and that of the whole Church, they will see that the Pentecost Offering is our way of helping the church support and encourage its young people. Jenna also wrote the Children’s Sermon and the resource for Connecting Worship and the Congregation, which includes great ideas for artwork, hymns, and prayers.

Finally, invite the children of your congregation to help in putting together a Pentecost display, whether it be for their classroom or the sanctuary. Our team had a blast using building blocks to assemble our display, so we know the kids will love it. Follow these easy instructions and you will have your very own Offering display in no time.

If you use any of our materials in promoting the 2019 Pentecost Offering, we invite you to share feedback on how it was received. We are also available to answer any questions you might have about these or any other Special Offerings resource. Feel free to reach out to us at 800-728-7228 ext. 5047 or specialofferings@pcusa.org.

If we all do a little, it adds up to a lot!

PS – If you don’t have many youth under 18 in your congregation, you can get creative and engage your more seasoned members in any of the activities above! Fun and learning are for Christians of every age!
