Jed Koball, Companionship Facilitator with Red Uniendos Manos Peru, PHP’s Joining Hands network in Peru, shares about the work of Joining Hands Peru and why dealing with root causes of poverty through advocacy is important. In La Oroya, a city of 33,000 people in Central Peru, a smelting operation operated by a U.S corporation has made the city the world’s most polluted place (2007) and has contributed to deteriorating health conditions, which has increased poverty. Red Uniendos Manos believes that changing that situation requires collective effort to address policies at the local, national and international levels.
