Lenten Devotional: Wednesday of Holy Week, March 28

The Prophets and Passion Week: Against all odds — pray

Mark 14:1–2 • It was two days before the Passover and the festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him; for they said, “Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people.”

Wednesday is the unknown day of Passion Week. One could reasonably argue that Jesus withdrew, as was his custom, to pray.

The discipline of a regular prayer life is invaluable. There is no moment, event or time when we should not engage in prayer. We pray long and hard for God’s will to be done. Prayers of intercession, adoration, thanksgiving, self-dedication, supplication and confession. A full prayer life makes all things endurable.

Lord, prayer gives us courage, strength and power. Amen.
