Lenten Devotional: Tuesday of Holy Week, March 27

The Prophets and Passion Week: It’s not too late

Daniel 11:31 • Forces sent by him shall occupy and profane the temple and fortress. They shall abolish the regular burnt offering and set up the abomination that makes desolate.

Matthew 24:15 • So when you see the desolating sacrilege standing in the holy place, as was spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand) . . .

Jesus spent the last Tuesday of his life preparing his disciples for the pending moment of his crucifixion and resurrection.

The disciples were not ready for what was about to occur. What happens when the worst possible outcome becomes reality? When the one thing we prayed would not occur does occur?

God does not send answers to our most pressing questions; rather, God comes to be in our midst to comfort and strengthen. Jesus promised that God would not leave us alone in our grief.

Lord, grant us a faith that endures throughout difficult moments. Amen.
