The Prophets and the Teachings of Jesus: The Spirit be with you

Haggai 2:5 • . . . according to the promise that I made you when you came out of Egypt. My spirit abides among you; do not fear.

John 14:26 • But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.

The Bible begins with the Spirit of God moving (Genesis 1:2). The Old Testament word for spirit is ruah. In the New Testament it is pneuma, meaning spirit, breath and wind.

God’s ruah is active. God’s pneuma guides and strengthens. God’s Spirit is a breath of fresh air for a stale world. It connects with our spirit and gives us life. Jesus told his disciples that they would be filled with power and authority to continue his mission by the coming of the Holy Spirit. Allow the Spirit of God to breathe upon you and renew your strength. Be renewed.

Lord, allow your Spirit to be in our midst and revitalize us. Amen.
