The Prophets and the Teachings of Jesus: Tears overflowing

Jeremiah 13:17 • But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the Lord’s flock has been taken captive.

Luke 19:41 • As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it.

Jesus and the prophet Jeremiah wept over the sins of the people.

God cries today over sin, violence and hate. The tears of God are shed whenever there is tragedy. The late Jewish writer Elie Wiesel, in his book Night, penned that God suffers with victims of hate. But God does not simply weep; God reacts by giving strength and comfort to victims of pain. The tears of God bring faithful endurance and even healing. Allow the compassion of God to heal your broken heart for a world of pain and suffering and allow God to use you to bring healing.

Lord, may the tears of God be shed by me; for as the heart of God breaks, so does my own. Amen.
