Jesus and the Prophets: God cares
Deuteronomy 18:18 • I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet, who shall speak to them everything that I command.
The people of Israel were in despair because Moses was about to leave them. Yet God gave them a hopeful promise that someday God would send another prophet. Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophetic promise.
There are moments in our lives when we need God to speak hopeful words amid a desperate situation. And God does speak. A card from a long-lost friend, an email saying that you are missed and loved, a picture that revives memories of a past fondly remembered. God is never distant and says, “I love you” the very moment we need God the most.
Lord, bless this season of Lent as we cherish the knowledge that you are a God of presence and promise. Amen.
