Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” – Mark 1:14-15

Jesus calls us to turn from sinful habits,
but we think that ritual cleansing is enough.
Jesus call us to turn from wicked powers,
but we think that looking toward heaven is enough.
Jesus calls us to turn from deviant ways,
but we think that retreating into the desert is enough.
God of the river and the cloud,
your voice still calls us to radical change,
but we think that simply repenting is enough.
Walk with us the Lenten season,
and give us the courage to turn again and again
so that our lives may proclaim
your good news of liberation.

Jesús nos llama a cambiar los hábitos pecaminosos,
pero creemos que basta con practicar rituales de limpieza.
Jesús nos llama a desasociarnos de los poderes malignos,
pero creemos que basta con mirar hacia el cielo.
Jesús nos llama a alejarnos de los caminos pervertidos,
pero creemos que basta con refugiarnos en el desierto.
Dios del río y de la nube,
tu voz todavía nos llama al cambio radical,
pero creemos que basta simplemente con arrepentirnos.
Camina con nosotros durante la Cuaresma
y danos el valor para cambiar una y otra vez
de modo que nuestras vidas proclamen
las buenas nuevas de liberación.
