Jesus and the Prophets: The past reveals the present

Luke 24:25–27 • Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.

Scripture testifies that the resurrection of Jesus was a predicted miracle. The prophets predicted the birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. This is the promise of the empty cross.

God has given us Scripture to guide us to the knowledge that we are not alone. God does not leave us to wander through life seeking to make sense out of it. Scripture leads us to a relationship with Jesus, the Son of God who saves. When we read the Gospels, the good news of Christ Jesus is filled with hope, inspiration and grace.

Lord, help us to remember the past, not merely for sentimental reasons, but to learn from it and improve the present. Amen.
