Let love speak: words and actions to pave the way of the Lord

Words are important. They have the power to frame, shape and inspire our lives. We take great care in teaching our children to speak and to master the right speech because language has the power to connect us and heal us. But for people of faith, actions often speak louder than words. In the Christian tradition, Advent is the time when we remember that God sent Jesus, the Logos, the Word Incarnate to speak more eloquently than ever before about God’s vision and ways.
This Advent, as we reflect on what it means to prepare the way of the Lord, you are invited to contemplate words and actions from the Psalms that challenge all of us to speak and act in more just and loving ways. One place to begin is perhaps by inviting the language — and the presence — of others among us, especially the other who is a foreigner. This simple yet profound act of making room is at the heart of the Christmas story, expressed in motifs like the womb, the inn and the manger. May Advent teach us to embrace each other’s stories and to speak the language of love.

Deja que el amor hable: palabras y acciones para preparer el camino del Señor

Las palabras son importantes. Pueden enmarcar, moldear e inspirar nuestras vidas. Nos esmeramos en enseñar a nuestros niños y niñas a hablar y a dominar el habla correcto porque el lenguaje tiene poder para conectarnos y sanarnos. Pero para el pueblo de fe, las acciones a menudo hablan más claro que las palabras. En la tradición cristiana, Adviento es la época cuando recordamos que Dios envió a Jesús, el Logos, el Verbo encarnado para hablar con mayor elocuencia que nunca antes sobre la visión y los caminos de Dios.
Este Adviento, al reflexionar sobre lo que significa preparar el camino del Señor, te invitamos a contemplar las palabras y las acciones de los Salmos que nos retan a hablar y actuar de maneras más justas y bondadosas. Una forma de comenzar es quizás convidando el lenguaje — y la presencia — de otras personas en medio nuestro, especialmente ese otro que es un extranjero. Este gesto sencillo pero profundo de hacer lugar se halla al corazón de la historia de la Navidad, plasmado en detalles como el vientre, el mesón y el pesebre. Ojalá que Adviento nos enseñe a acoger las historias de cada cual y a hablar el lenguaje del amor.
