The apostle Peter, it seems,
was quite fond of mathematics,
so he spent a great deal of time
crunching numbers alongside dogmatics.
One fine day he tallied up
the number of pardons he had given,
and astounded he began to question
whether everyone should be forgiven.
Just then he had the bright idea
of introducing subtraction,
to avoid an excessive balance
and minimize the transactions.
Fed up with the growing figures,
“Just how many times,” he asked,
should I forgive my brother?”
And the Master quickly tasked:
“Keep on adding, Simon Peter,
and stop being such a pester,
invest in some quality pencils
and get yourself a large eraser.”

Parece que al apóstol Pedro
le gustaban las matemáticas
y que estaba acostumbrado
a andar ajustando cuentas.
Un buen día hizo la suma
de los perdones otorgados
y llegó a la conclusión
de que ya eran demasiados.
Tuvo entonces la brillante idea
de comenzar a restar
para impedir que aquel monto
se fuese a multiplicar.
Harto de aquellas cifras,
“¿cuántas veces”, preguntó,
“perdonaré a mi hermano?”
Y el Maestro le contestó:
“Sigue sumando, Pedro,
no te hagas tantas preguntas,
consíguete un borrador
y cómprate un sacapuntas”.
