Saturday of the First Week in Lent
Read John 3:1–21
Over the past few weeks, I’ve grown increasingly intrigued by a fledgling rabbi who’s been traveling through the area. Some of my fellow Pharisees bristle at his teachings; they’ve branded him a “young upstart” and a “revolutionary.” But his words capture my imagination in a way I’ve never before experienced, so last night I paid him a call.
I’d barely introduced myself when he began talking about the kingdom of God and being born anew. He spoke of the Spirit, our scriptural foundations, and God’s purpose and judgment.
I recognize that this man teaches with God’s authority. But, to be honest, he’s left me with more questions than answers. I yearn to comprehend more deeply the principles of which he speaks. I’ll continue to watch this young man’s career with interest; he has the potential to attract quite a following.
Jesus, help me to grasp your great wisdom and to understand how deep your love is for us.
