The Moderator Is Elected

The Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow, pastor of Mission Bay Community Church in San Francisco, was elected moderator of the 218th General Assembly (2008) last night. Bruce, age 39, is a prolific blogger.

Other candidates included the Rev. William "Bill" Teng of National Capital Presbytery, the Rev. D. Carl Mazza and Elder Roger Shoemaker of Homestead Presbytery.

The election process begins with nominating speeches. Each candidate then has five minutes to speak. A question and answer period, with questions posed from commissioners and advisory delegates, follows.

During the process, each of the candidates spoke with deep faith in Jesus Christ, deep love for the church, and deep integrity. The Presbyterian Church is blessed to have such individuals called to serve.
