Upcoming webinars to feature 8 Habits of Evangelism authors

The purpose is to go deeper into the wonder of God’s justice and reconciliation for the world

LOUISVILLE — Beginning Sept. 8 and continuing every Wednesday through Oct. 27, Theology, Formation & Evangelism will host free webinars on the 8 Habits of Evangelism featuring each of the authors in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) who wrote it.

The resource, which provides structured lessons for each of the eight identified habits of evangelism — justice, radical welcome, worship, sacraments, prayer, fellowship, teaching and generosity — is the first evangelism tool designed by the PC(USA) in nearly a decade.

“We were eager to put out a new resource that addressed evangelism in today’s context,” said the Rev. Dr. Kathryn Threadgill, associate director of TFE. “These webinars are an opportunity to explore the resource and go deeper into our understanding of these habits together.”

Each webinar, held Wednesday afternoons beginning Sept. 8 and ending Oct. 27, begins at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.  The first habit discussed is justice, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph B. Watkins, professor of Evangelism and Church Growth at Columbia Theological Seminary.

The habit and discussion to be presented during each webinar are designed for people of faith to go deeper into the wonder of God’s justice and reconciliation for the world — which is also the purpose of the upcoming digital REvangelism Conference from Montreat Conference Center Nov. 1-3.

“Each of the authors explores how the habit they’re writing about affects their daily lives in practical ways,” Threadgill said. “These webinars will give people the opportunity to begin rethinking evangelism and the ways we share the Good News in authentic relationship with others.”

To prepare for the discussion with each author, click here to find each habit’s lesson, along with details, biblical references, illustrations and questions about each practice. In addition to these webinars, each “8 Habits” author will participate in the REvangelism Conference.  You can also find video conversations with each of the authors here by clicking on the blue tab bar for each habit.

“This is a communal resource engaging everyday practices that will allow the Spirit to transform our daily lives,” Threadgill said. “We couldn’t be more excited that each of these authors felt led to offer their time in exploring their habit on a deeper level throughout the fall to prepare us for REvangelism.  We believe the Spirit of God will transform the way we think and live out evangelism today.”

The 8 Habits of Evangelism weekly webinar will take place via Zoom from 3-4 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesdays beginning on Sept. 8.
