January ‘Facing Racism’ resources celebrate legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

In January 2017, remembering his legacy and recalling the “Dr. King’s Unfinished Agenda” conference (PNS stories #1, #2 and #3) at the Montreat Conference Center, Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston, Co-Moderators of the 222nd General Assembly (2016) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), urged the church to work to stand against “racism, poverty, war, and materialism” by issuing the “MLK Weekend: A Call to Action” letter.

CPJ Training Day addresses racism, materialism and militarism

Fifty years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a speech that provided the foundation for this year’s theme at Compassion, Peace and Justice Training Day. Speaking at the Riverside Church in New York, King provided a connection between the war in Vietnam with the civil rights movement.

MLK holiday brings three NJ congregations together

In the spirit of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., three northern NJ churches have rehabilitated a church in need of repairs. Over the MLK holiday weekend in January 2016, the Presbyterian Church at Tenafly and Old Bergen Church of Jersey City teamed up for a construction project at the Mideast Evangelical Church in Jersey City to remodel, insulate and paint a fellowship hall, reinforce a hand rail, share in a delicious MiddleEastern meal, hear stories, and commemorate the MLK Day of Service.
