Mid Council Financial Network announces virtual conference set for Dec. 14-15

The Mid Council Financial Network (MCFN) — the only entity that serves the needs of the volunteer and paid staff who work with finances in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s 170 presbyteries and 16 synods — is preparing to hold its annual program, virtually, December 14–15, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Eastern Time each day.

An A Corp elevator pitch

On the recommendation of its Nominating, Governance and Personnel Committee Friday, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation Board approved a succinct statement describing the agency.

Making the (virtual) rounds

The Rev. Gregory Bentley and Ruling Elder Elona Street-Stewart, the Co-Moderators of the 224th General Assembly (2020), took 45 minutes Thursday with members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation Board to share their vision of what’s ahead over the next two years.

No raises in 2021 for Presbyterian Mission Agency staff

Voting “with regret,” the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s Personnel and Nominating Committee reported to the entire board Friday that budget restraints and the “current COVID reality” will mean no pay increases during 2021 for PMA staff.

Stony Point Center discerning a new vision

Due to the ongoing financial impact of COVID-19, the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) is further reducing operations at Stony Point Center (SPC), which will serve as a small retreat center moving forward. In order to reduce expenses and allow time for transition, the small-group retreat model will utilize only the Gilmor Sloane and Allison houses. The main campus will be maintained but will not house guests as the PMA begins a period of prayerful discernment on SPC’s future and explores long-term viability, both missionally and financially.

A coordinated effort

Staff and board members from the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board, the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly and the A Corporation Board are working to build a Coordinating Table designed to enhance discernment and collaboration among the three agencies and help them put together a unified budget process and document ahead of the 225th General Assembly (2022).

Presbyterian Mission Agency Board hears powerful preaching from one of its own

Like the Apostle Paul, when the Rev. Kevin Johnson was a child, he thought like a child. But even then he had the good sense to ask his mother and the people at his church plenty of questions — much the same way Muhammad Ali did in a taped interview Johnson played for his colleagues on the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board Thursday.
