Applications now open for the 2019 Presbyterian Youth Triennium production team

Twenty-six volunteers needed for upcoming event

The Presbyterian Youth Triennium is currently accepting application for the 2019 production team. The ecumenical gathering for high school aged students and accompanying adults is organized by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) and Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Biblically and youth focused, this high-energy event takes place every three years on Purdue University’s campus and features a variety of activities and speakers.

“Every Triennium we start over, we start from scratch with a new theme, new schedule, new theological grid,” says Presbyterian Youth Triennium Director Gina Yeager-Buckley.

The production team is comprised of 26 people — youth and adults — who share a passion for youth ministry. Having attended past Trienniums is a plus, however the Triennium staff is constantly looking for a balance of perspectives. Yeager-Buckley strives to assemble a production team that is reflective of the diversity of the PC(U.S.A.)

“We want young people from big cities and rural areas — we want big church, little church representation. We want young people that come from different cultures,” she says.

Coordinating with Triennium staff, the production team will work to refine the many layers of this large-scale event. Some of those layers involve forecasting and predicting what the needs of participants might be in 2019. “What could be happening in the world politically or theologically? What could the church be facing?” asks Yeager-Buckley.

Production team applicants should also be aware of the expectations that come with the position, which can be unglamorous.

“We need people who have no hesitation to do hard, sweaty day-long work,” says Yeager-Buckley.

Because the nature of the work is inherently behind the scenes, good listeners and an ability to work with others is necessary to the success of the team. “If you’re on the production team, you’re not necessarily going to be on the stage, but you are going to be helping what is happening on all of the stages,” according to Yeager-Buckley.
