Hello! My name is Emily Teerink. I’m from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I am currently serving my first YAV year in Lundazi, Zambia. I graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 2018 with majors in government (with a concentration in international relations) and environmental studies, and a minor in Spanish. My passion for international development and my interest in pursuing a career in the field, led me to serve in rural Zambia. During my first YAV year, I have enjoyed navigating Zambian culture and finding my place in this new community. I have learned so much through my three volunteer placements with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian, but there is still so much to learn and discover about Zambia, which is why I am thrilled about the opportunity to continue serving alongside my Zambian community during a second YAV year.
