Applicants are being sought for a one-year (renewable), full-time 1001 residency with the Labyrinth Café, a New Worshiping Community for the students of Tulane and Loyola Universities in New Orleans, LA.
Connection to the larger 1001 NWC Movement
The person selected for the Labyrinth Café Residency with 1001 NWC will be a part of a national leadership cohort for leaders of 1001 New Worshiping Communities. This highly dynamic leadership program gathers peers weekly for meaningful reflection, training and discernment (on Zoom, hosted by our program director, Sara Hayden); provides an experienced ICF-certified coach to help the leaders discern next steps in starting meaningful new projects; and gathers participants for an annual in-person retreat.
Site Description
The Labyrinth Café was created as an ecumenical queer affirming donations-based café. The café is partnered with local Presbyterian and Methodist Churches and hosts several religious and secular programs throughout the week.
During the week we hold several classes, the youngest AA meeting in the city, the Latin American Graduate Student lunch, and a free community lunch every Wednesday. Students can use this space to promote their art and music with live shows several times a week. Most notably “Business in Color” an event promoting Black entrepreneurs and artists in the student community was held this November. Because we do not charge students to use the space if it is open to the public, many musicians are drawn here to share their talents with the wider community.
The café is sustained through generous donations from the community including food/drink donations, grants, and the utilization of Federal Work Study students; Tulane and Loyola universities pay for 75%-100% of the student workers’ pay. We have 25 students workers.
The Labyrinth Café is growing and filled with momentum. In this growth, we wish to expand our staff and to be a site for the 1001 New Worshiping Communities Resident Program.
We are seeking someone with a spirit of collaboration and relational and organization talents to further our ministry.
