Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our members have taken it upon themselves to work toward the eradication of systemic poverty by addressing the rise in widespread hunger in our small community. As unemployment has grown and as SNAP access has suffered defeat at the federal level, we have expanded our embrace of Jesus’ commitment to meeting basic needs in order to support more holistic thriving. We have sought to eliminate any barriers to food by regularly filling a no-questions-asked blessing box on our property, by handing out fresh-made meals with no questions asked every weekend, and by cooking hot meals for a local homeless shelter. We have also raised awareness among ourselves by talking about the growing hunger crisis here and the growing starvation crisis worldwide in our worship services and studies of Scripture.
