- Attend a HopeSprings training. Individuals and congregants will learn how to engage in volunteer opportunities both in their communities and through HopeSprings’ existing partnerships with local HIV/AIDS service organizations.
- Be a welcoming community for those living with, or affected by, HIV/AIDS.
- Seek and share information widely in your community about needle or syringe exchange programs.
- Provide pastoral care for those living with, or affected by, HIV/AIDS.
- Use the “Becoming an HIV/AIDS Competent Church” statement for youth and adult Christian education in your church.
- Teach a Sunday school class on HIV/AIDS.
- Use a large red ribbon banner in your congregation on PC(USA) World AIDS Sunday, June 23. Hand out small red ribbons to congregants. Order free red ribbons here.
- Participate in the Red Scarf Project to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.
Act Globally
Engage with mission co-workers responding to HIV/AIDS:
Advocate
- Support policies that address the social inequalities creating increased risk of infection, nationally and globally.
- Support PC(USA) World AIDS Sunday, June 23, and other national HIV/AIDS awareness days.
- Support national health care coverage.
Give
- AIDS Crisis Overseas (E862706) — Gifts support church and community-based programs that address poverty, behavior and other root causes of AIDS transmission. Programs include skills training, education, income-generating activities and Biblically based behavior formation and change. A focus is women and families.
