I come to camp to make my most important decisions.”

A worshiper shared this at a Sunday service at Clearwater Forest Camp and Retreat Center. She knows the importance of taking time away to call upon the Lord and listen for God’s voice. Many do just that at one of the more than 140 Presbyterian camp and conference centers throughout our nation. Alex, a camper-turned-counselor, says: “When I come to camp, it reinvigorates my faith. Sort of like, ‘Oh, this is why I go to church!’”

Young adults are crucial to the vibrant ministry of Clearwater Forest. The passion, energy, and enthusiasm they bring as staff fuel a summer camp program that touches the lives of so many campers. Their questions about life keep us searching for answers together, especially answers about careers and calling. Their servant hearts make fall and winter retreats fun for church youth groups and leaders. And the sharing of faith journeys weaves generations together as they experience the beauty of God’s thin spaces—on lakes and prairies, in woods and valleys, and on beaches and mountains.

This past summer, staff member Brittney shared: “The environment we have . . . [is] God’s creation in the purest form. His presence feels closer here than anywhere.”

Where do you go to make your most important decisions?

Let us pray

(Open your hands.) Holy God, I call upon you with a renewed spirit.
(Open and close left hand.) Reveal yourself to me in fresh ways today.
(Open and close right hand.) Show me the paths you have placed before me.
(Clasp your hands together.) Be with me in every decision I make. Amen.
