11-29-2016-339x339LOUISVILLE – If Black Friday and Cyber Monday’s commercialization of Christmas has left you discouraged, you may be able to recover your holiday joy by supporting Presbyterian ministries on #GivingTuesday.

Today the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is among more than 40,000 organizations in 71 countries participating in #GivingTuesday, which is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The Presbyterian Foundation and the Presbyterian Mission Agency are featuring several online giving opportunities at the Foundation’s #GivingTuesday website.

Ministries highlighted on the website include Presbyterian World Mission, Compassion, Peace, and Justice, 1001 New Worshiping Communities, the Presbyterian Giving Catalog, the Christmas Joy Offering, the Theological Education Fund, and Freedom Rising, a PC(USA) effort to address the worsening plight of the African-American male. Presbyterians also can give to their congregations and other PC(USA)-related causes at the website.

Now in its fifth year, #GivingTuesday was created by the 92nd Street Y, a cultural and community center in New York City, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. In 2015, religious organizations received 40 percent of all gifts received on #GivingTuesday.
