Hey y’all! My name is Kelsey Pennington and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas for the first eighteen years of my life. I grew up in Clear Lake Presbyterian Church and am beyond grateful for the opportunities given to me and the life-changing experiences that helped shape me as a person. CLPC’s focus on missions and outreach was a big part of why service has always been so important to me.
I graduated from Chapman University in 2013 (Orange, California) where I studied Political Science and History in preparation for law school. My experiences in the Admission Office and Ambassador Program helped hone my public speaking skills and encourage my love of getting to know people. Finding a new church was a serious adjustment, but I found comfort and strength at Saddleback Church where I was encouraged to follow the Lord in all that I do and find what it means to really be a disciple.
I just spent my first year as a YAV in Denver and I am looking forward to my second year in the Philippines.
I am doing the YAV program for a year before pursuing a degree in Human Rights Law in hopes of giving a voice to the marginalized and oppressed. I have always been passionate about serving the urban poor and spreading awareness about poverty in America. I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for me in the Philippines this year!
The Young Adult Volunteer program is a year-long service program for young adults between ages 19 and 30. Read more about the YAV program here
