YAV in New Orleans
Hey all! I'm excited to be serving as a YAV for a second term in New Orleans, where I'm lucky enough to get to work with adolescents and vegetables--my two favorite things--as a school and community gardening coordinator!
I was born and raised in Pennington, New Jersey, where I am still a proud member of Pennington Presbyterian Church. I left New Jersey in 2002 to attend Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where I received my Bachelor's degree in English and Religion, as well as my secondary teaching certification. I first served as a YAV in 2008-2009 through the Borderlands program based out of Tucson, and I was blessed to work as a land steward and conservation educator in the rural community of Cascabel. I enjoyed Arizona so much that I moved there following my initial year of service, and I have been busy teaching eighth grade Language Arts until now!
I am very excited to be returning to the YAV program, engaging with young people of faith, and further exploring God's call for my life. I'm particularly tickled to be in New Orleans, a city I've felt drawn to for years, and I'm looking forward to experiencing the unique gifts and lessons this community can share with me.
