James, I do not know of any studies. My experience and that of others that have shared with me is that automatic withdrawal gives the church a date and amount they can depend on month to month which at the very least helps with the cash flow. At best people give by automatic withdrawal and put something in the plate when they attend increasing the amount they give each year and raising loose offering. The Presbbyterian Endowment Education Network might know of the study you mention (www.peernetwork.org). Also try the Lake Institute on Faith and Giving (www.philanthropy.iupui.edu/the-lake-institute).

I understand a study involving members paying pledges to the church directly from their bank has been found to produce more regular and prompt payments than by sending checks to the church or being placed in the offering plates. Where can I find that resource information. Thank you.
