Regional gatherings for local Self-Development of People leaders

By Wayne Gnatuk

Stony Point logoTwo regional Self-Development of People gatherings will take place during October.  The gatherings are only for the chair person and staff person of certified Self-Development of People (SDOP) Committees, and are opportunities for SDOP leaders to explore ways in which they can work together more effectively at a regional level.

The first of the two gatherings will be for Self-Development of People committee chairs and staff in the Synod of the Northeast; it will take place on October 19-20 in Stony Point, New York.  The second gathering will be for SDOP committee chairs and staff in the Synod of the Covenant, and is scheduled for October 28-29 in Toledo, Ohio.

Self-Development of People leaders from each region have worked in separate planning teams to prepare an agenda for the gatherings.  In addition to exploring topics of interest related to SDOP, participants will be able to develop working relationships with one another.

Fifteen to twenty participants are expected at each of the regional gatherings.  Representatives of the Louisville-based national Self-Development of People staff Cynthia E. White (Coordinator for Self Development of People) and Wayne A. Gnatuk (Associate for SDOP Church-wide Relations) will be attending both events.

Sally Glover, Chair of Donegal Presbytery’s Self-Development of People Committee recalls attending the 2009 Regional Gathering for The Synod of the Trinity, saying “What it did for me was to make me feel part of a larger movement that existed across Presbytery boundaries, which for me was an empowering thing.  It helped to give me the enthusiasm to get out there and really do the SDOP work.  I wish I could be with SDOP people in the Synods of the Covenant and Northeast who will get to attend Regional Gatherings this year – they’ll really enjoy them!”
