SDOP is coming to a congregation near you in 2013 …

In 2012, The National Committee on Self-Development began a Congregational Outreach Project. The goal was to familiarize eight congregations with Self-Development’s ministry, by having a pair of National Committee members making a visit to each of the congregations. The visitation teams were to (1) find out what was happening in the life of the congregations and their respective communities, (2) share information about the One Great Hour of Sharing and Self-Development of People, and (3) to encourage congregations to tell their communities about Self-Development.
During 2012, the eight visitation teams visited with congregations in Albion, NY; Asheville, NC; Charleston, SC; Drexel Hill, PA; Foley, MN; Sunnyvale, CA; Wilmington, CA, and Youngstown, OH.
The Rev. Ewen Holmes, who visited First Presbyterian Church in Foley, MN, says, “They were excited to learn how the One Great Hour of Sharing impacted so many people. And for me, it was a good experience, a wonderful time with Presbyterians who are very concerned about, and committed to, community ministry.”
According to Cathy Surgenor, chair of Self-Development of People’s Church-wide Relations Standing Committee at the time, “The Congregational Outreach Program is an incredible opportunity to share our ministry with Presbyterians. When church members know how phenomenal some of the projects we fund are, they’ll celebrate what they enable through the One Great Hour of Sharing.”
National Committee members will be visiting an additional eleven congregations during 2013.
