Leadership Development Grant Program

The Leadership Development Grant Program has been created to enable women to participate fully in the life and mission of Presbyterian Women and the church, which in turn strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).


Who is eligible to receive grants?

  • Individual grants: Individual women of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) or global sisters in churches that have a recognized partnership with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (Form A)
  • Group grants: Three or more women from a PW group, a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) entity, or partner churches around the globe attending the same event as a group (Form B)
  • Event/Project grants: PW organizations in presbyteries and synods (Form C)
  • Block Grants: Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) groups and entities (Form D)
  • Gathering Scholarships: Individuals affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (Gathering Scholarship Form, available 2011)

Note: No individual person or entity will be eligible to receive grants more than once in a four-year period, with the exception of the block grants.


For what purposes will funding be granted?

  • Individual and group grants: To assist Presbyterian women and their global sisters to develop and strengthen leadership skills through participation in leadership education events, including conferences
  • Event/Project grants: To support PW organizations in presbyteries and synods who are organizing events and working on projects that will strengthen the Presbyterian Women organization and further its goals
  • Block grants: To assist PC(USA) groups and entities, whose purpose is aligned with that of Presbyterian Women, in organizing events intended to strengthen women’s leadership
  • Gathering scholarships: To provide scholarship assistance to women who reflect the diversity of the church, so that they may participate in the Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women

How much funding will be given?

The amount of each grant will depend on the request. The following amounts are maximum grants:

  • Individual grants: $500 for domestic events; $1,500 for international events (Form A)
  • Group grants: $2,000 for domestic events; $5,000 for international events (Form B)
  • Event/Project grants: $2,500 (Form C)
  • Block grants: Amounts to be determined on an individual basis (Form D)
  • Gathering scholarships: Amounts to be determined by the Leadership Development Grant Committee 

Where does the funding come from?

Leadership Development grant funds come from PW Honorary Life Memberships, Recognitions and Memorials.


Who makes the final decision on grants?

The Presbyterian Women’s Leadership Development Grant Committee makes the final decision on all grants.


How do I apply for a grant?

  • Send the completed application form and the appropriate IRS taxpayer identification form (see guidelines) to the endorser.
  • Endorser completes endorsement section of application form and forwards it, along with the appropriate IRS tax identification form, to

  • Completed application and IRS forms must be received in the office of Presbyterian Women ninety (90) days before financial assistance is needed for event/project and block grants and sixty (60) days before assistance is needed for individual and group grants.
  • The PW office forwards applications to the Leadership Development Grant Committee for a decision. The committee notifies the office of its decision.
  • Approved applications are processed for disbursement.
  • Each recipient of a PW leadership development grant is required to submit a report of their experience of the event that they attend or plan or the project they complete. When approved for the grant, the applicant(s) will receive a follow-up report form. Please complete the form and return it within six weeks following the event or completion of the project to
