2013 POINT Highlights

David Maxwell and Carol Wehrheim emphasized three key points about Feasting on the Word Curriculum for discipleship ministry:

  • Feasting on the Word is not for individual study
  • Feasting on the Word connects education and worship
  • Feasting on the Word can work in any size congregation

Ray Jones, coordinator of evangelism for the PC(USA), provided information about evangelism tools, reminding POINT representatives that the original Engage approach is available online and for download. He also informed the group that this resource will soon be revised.

Jones introduced the new Engage curriculum in partnership with Congregational Ministries Publishing (CMP). He outlined the three parts of the resource: Engage: Gospel (now available); Engage: Discipleship; and Engage: Mission. He highlighted the seven-session format and the Participant’s and Leader’s Guides that are similar to the Being Reformed series for adult education, also from CMP.

Jones gave tips about disciples as evangelists and offered suggestions for ways to use the Engage resources in a variety of settings. Jones provided a PDF of his presentation. Two video clips on sharing Scripture that Jones used in his workshop are available on the Evangelism website. The Brennan Manning video clip can be viewed on YouTube with instructions on how to purchase.
