George active in the Student Christian Movement (SCM) he initiated the formation of a group to explore mission in India in solidarity with social movements which took him to villages in Chattisgarh (central India) to organize Dalit’s and landless peasants for land rights and human dignity.  His involvement with the SCM and social movements lead him to theological education as his vocation. George served on the Core Group on the Ecology of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) and is the author of Gospel in a Groaning World:  Climate Injustice and Public Witness and Alternative Unincorporated:  Earth Ethics from the Grassroots.  He is deeply involved in peace initiatives and campaigns against nuclear plants, homophobia, racism, environmental injustice, capital punishment, and patriarchy.

A professor of Christian Social Ethics, and dean of Graduate Studies at the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute in Chennai, George is a graduate of United Theological College in Bangalore, Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and earned his Ph.D. in the field of Systematic Theology with special emphasis in Christian Ethics from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, IL, USA, in 2006.
