Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is responding to flooding in Thailand and supporting our long-term mission partner, The Church of Thailand.
Tens of thousands of people have fled flooding in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, as the city has been surrounded by behemoth pools of water flowing around and through it via a complex network of canals and rivers.
The floods, caused in part by unusually heavy monsoon rain, are the worst Thailand has seen in half a century. Approximately 400 people have died due to the floods, and more than 8.6 million persons living in 61 provinces are affected. More than 700,000 homes have been destroyed.
Moderator Boonratana Buayen, The Church of Thailand, issued a letter of appeal for prayers and solidarity support. This is a crisis situation for the people of Thailand, particularly our partner church in Thailand.
