Celebrate Multicultural Church
Sunday - June 2nd

On Sunday June 2nd millions of Presbyterians of all ethnicities and cultures will gather together to celebrate Multicultural Church Sunday. Now is the time to prepare for this Multicultural Church Sunday celebration.

We have included on this website an example of worship bulletin for your use and also a communion service for those who are accustom to having communion during the first week of the month. We encourage you to explore the Biblical and theological foundation of diversity and multicultural ministry and discuss new ways of doing worship by utilizing diverse gifts in the congregation to reflect the racial, cultural, gender, theological and socio-economic makeup of the community in and around your church.

To help you celebrating this event, we suggest that you order Living the Vision: Becoming a Multicultural Church, both the booklet and the DVD.  For English, please, order PDS 72-341-04-001; for Spanish, PDS 23-314-07-001; and for Korean, PDS 23-314-08-003. For the DVD in English with subtitles in both Spanish and Korean, order PDS 72-341-04-003 from the Presbyterian Distribution Agency, (PDA)

You may also consider exchanging choirs, or/and pulpit with another colleague or church of a different racial/cultural background. Set Sunday afternoon for a cultural celebration with international potluck and invite an international guest speaker to address your gathering.  For more resources and info, please, visit our website, www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/multicultural or call 800-728-7228 ext. 5233 for questions and an up-to-date resources to interpret this emphasis.

You may also want to consider signing your church as a member of and partner with the National Presbyterian Multicultural Network (PMN). For more information, visit www.pmnpcusa.org or/and - http://www.pcusa.org/multicultural/multicultural-sunday.htm

The Church on the Move

Why hasn’t the church more successfully embodied and embraced difference?  This is the question that stitched its way through the work of the Ecumenical Network For Multicultural Ministry (ENFORMM) “Church on the Move” consultation held in Chicago at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Churchwide Offices during Holy Week this year.

Representatives from six different North American Communions, including the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Presbyterian Church of Canada, the ELCA, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, The United Church of Christ in America (UCC), The United Church of Canada (UCCC), and the Anglican Church in Canada gathered in Chicago for three days of collaboration, exploration, soul searching, and prayer around some of the most difficult questions that challenge mainline churches today.  Read more now
