A Christian’s walk of life is supposed to reflect that of Christ, and we are to strive everyday to be more like Him. I know that the things I do should represent the kind of person I am and what I strive to be. Matthew 5:13-16 says, "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” I hope and expect for God to show others His immeasurable love through me so that I might reflect His shining light. I look forward to growing in my faith and continuing to trust Him in all aspects of my life. I will be working at a community resource center called the Martha O'Bryan Center (MOB) throughout my YAV year. My role at MOB will be a combination of things ranging from GED tutoring for adults, ESL tutoring, and working with refugees from Somalia helping them to learn about and adjust to their lives and community in Nashville.
The Young Adult Volunteer program is a year-long service program for young adults between ages 19 and 30. Read more about the YAV program here
