I am from Beaumont, Texas. I just graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. with a degree in Art History and Religious Studies. I'll be working in Nashville at Conexion Americas where I will be responsible for running the Conversemos language exchange program. My decision to spend a year in mission after graduation came when I returned from serving for a month in South Africa in 2009. Upon my return, I had a deep desire to serve communities in need, both at home and abroad, and felt called to the YAV program because of the opportunity to work with Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and African immigrants through English language and educational programs. I was impressed by the amount of support the YAV program provided for participants and was drawn to sites with an emphasis on vocational discernment.
The Young Adult Volunteer program is a year-long service program for young adults between ages 19 and 30. Read more about the YAV program here
