Mbujimayi is a rapidly growing urban center in the industrial diamond mining area of the East Kasai region. Mbujimayi Presbyterian Hospital Center provides compassionate and efficient primary care and community health services to an area population that has swelled dramatically due to refugees fleeing political violence. Health care resources are inadequate, putting a growing demand on Mbujimayi Hospital to meet increasing needs.
The hospital has 100 beds and a medical staff of 50 under the leadership of Dr. Kabeya Tshibema. In addition to inpatient services, the Mbujimayi Presbyterian Hospital Center operates an outpatient clinic through its Department of Nursing that serves tens of thousands of people each year with drugs and children’s immunizations. In addition, a satellite community development program based in the district of Kabeya Kamaunga west of Mbujimayi sees more than 30,000 patients each year.
Other services include a tuberculosis clinic, an eye clinic and a family planning clinic. The nutritional rehabilitation clinic serves over 500 malnourished children annually, helping to restore them to health. The hospital center also has a School Health Education program and a Demonstration Gardening program. All services through the Mbujimayi Presbyterian Hospital Center are rendered regardless of ability to pay.
The Mbujimayi Presbyterian Hospital Center is assisted by Extra Commitment Opportunity Account #051711.
