The development of sound theological education is a high priority. The African Church in the Arab parts of northern Sudan is one of the fastest growing in Africa. The Bible School at Gerief in Khartoum has no buildings of its own but is using buildings belonging to the Conference Center. Plans are to erect a new building to house 25 students, a library, office, kitchen and dining room. This will also upgrade the training, making it a full theological school.E862120. Read more

The New Testament has been completed but the entire Old Testament remains to be translated. Funding is needed for the ongoing salaries and training of indigenous translators. Many of the Murle have fled from Southern Sudan to refugee camps in Kenya, and one of these refugee camps is the current location of the translation effort.

The Giffen Bible School is a training center for pastors and evangelists who serve the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan. The Presbyterian Church of South Sudan concentrates it evangelism efforts largely in Upper Nile and Jonglei Provinces. The school also has a program of theological education by extension. Funds will help support this school and allow it to educate and prepare more pastors for the church.E862606. Read more
Ravaged by years of war, communities in Southern Sudan lack many of the basic necessities for survival. Church partners are struggling to rebuild the infrastructure of the region and restore health services. Meanwhile people suffer in a vicious cycle of poverty and disease. Funds will be used for operating, travel and administrative expenses for the work of the PC(USA) liaison working in the Horn of Africa region (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan). The liaison helps implement agreed-upon programs with partner churches and institutions while supporting PC(USA) congregations and presbyteries in direct mission involvement with partners. The liaisons also give practical, pastoral and culture/language transition support to other PC(USA) mission personnel serving in the region. Particular focus is on Ethiopia and South Sudan.E051698.
