Dan and Elizabeth Turk serve in Madagascar through the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar's (FJKM) development branch, within which are departments of health, environment, agriculture, and safe drinking water. The Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM) provides health services in remote areas, helping rural communities prevent and treat the major illnesses that threaten health: malaria, measles, diarrhea and pneumonia. The Community Health program also provides training and helps to facilitate AIDS awareness and education.

In response to the environmental degradation that is devastating the country, the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM) is promoting sustainable integrated development through its environmental program. PC(USA) funds will be used to install village tree nurseries, conduct training in nursery and soil management and create and operate an environmental education program in primary schools.

Southern Africa Regional Liaison

Funds will be used for operating, travel and administrative expenses for the work of the PC(USA) liaison working in the Southern Africa region. The liaison helps implement agreed-upon programs with partner churches and institutions while supporting PC(USA) congregations and presbyteries in direct mission involvement with partners. The liaisons also give practical, pastoral and culture/language transition support to other PC(USA) mission personnel serving in the region. Particular focus is on Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
