The Communities of Theological Friendship Initiative awarded grants in 2012 to more than 75 groups - either to form new Communities of Theological Friendship, or to sustain existing Communities.  Here are just a few:

Group name:        Salt and Light

Primary contact: Adele Crawford, North Haven, CT

Location:              All over US

Group description: This group was designed for women over the age of 40 who have been ordained less than seven years. There are currently eight core members who have covenanted to care for one another through prayer, scripture, reflection, sharing of resources, and support. They have committed to gather monthly via Skype and have formed an online community on a Ning website. During their times together, the group discussed resources, explored their ministry context both practically and theologically, and studied how to utilize their diverse gifts in each one’s place of ministry. Over time, this as developed in to a “pulpit swap,” helping each other to write liturgy, creating and presenting workshops, and simply acting as a place to brainstorm on creative ways to serve. Salt and Light hopes to eventually be a larger internet group but to maintain the core group of eight women as the “steering committee.”

“Calling ourselves ‘Salt and Light’ (for we are to be both to the world and to each other) we hope to season our lives and ministry in productive ways and to bring light into the dark places—both the dark places that can arise in ministry and the dark places in the world.” – Rev. Adele Crawford
